Amarillo - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings are now losers of three- straight after a 12-4 loss to the Amarillo Dillas tonight at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
The WhiteWings (35-40) got on the board right away against Dustin Taylor (4-6). Agustin Septimo led off the game with a ground-rule double, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a groundout by Juan Melo to make it 1-0.
The Dillas (43-31) responded against Carlos Artiles (2-4) in the bottom of the second. With one out, Trent Lockwood singled and Andrew Wong walked. Justin Wenger followed with a grounder to second base, but the flip to shortstop Joaquin Rodriguez covering the bag was not in time. He threw, to first, but it got away, allowing everyone to take an extra base. Willie James followed with an RBI-single to make it 2-1.
The WhiteWings tied it in the top of the third. Melo led off with an infield single, stole second and moved to second when the throw hit off of shortstop Angel Reyes' glove. Two outs later, Rico Santana broke an 0-20 skid with an RBI-double to make it 2-2.
With two outs in the top of the fourth, Septimo walked and Rodriguez and Melo hit back-to-back RBI-doubles to make it 4-2.
The Dillas got one back in the bottom of the inning. Lockwood led off with a single and Wong was hit by a pitch. A groundout moved the runners up a base and James hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3.
The Dillas took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Stantrel Smith and Carlos Figueroa led off with singles. One out later, Reyes hit a two-run triple and Lockwood hit an RBI-single to make it 6-4.
The Dillas broke it open by sending 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the seventh Reyes started off the inning with a double against Juan Diaz. Lockwood hit an RBI-single and Wong followed with a single. Wenger reached on a fielder's choice. James followed with a single. Keanon Simon hit an RBI-single. Smith lifted a fly ball to right field that Juan Cabrera dropped to load the bases. Figueroa walked to force-in a run, Terrance McClain hit a sacrifice fly and Reyes hit an RBI-double to knock out Diaz with the score 12-4.
The WhiteWings and Dillas play for the final time in the regular season tomorrow night at 7:05. Right-hander Reymond Cruz (6-6) is expected to face left-hander Justin Phillips (1-3).
