
WhiteWings Beat Colts in Ten, Earn Series Split

San Angelo - Eric Gonzalez hit an RBI-single in the top of the tenth to send the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings past the San Angelo Colts 12-11 in ten innings Monday at Foster Field.
The WhiteWings (14-12) and Colts (11-15) split the series with two wins each.
Arlon Quiroz led off the tenth with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. One out later, Kevin Griffin was hit by a pitch to set-up Gonzalez's hit against Michael Hacker (0-1).
Down 9-6 entering the top of the eighth, Domenic Di Ricco pinch-hit and walked against Matt Chuchian. Joel Roa was hit by a pitch, and after an out, Bryan Heaston came in and allowed a two-run double to Javis Diaz. Quiroz hit an RBI-single to tie the game. Yeurys Tejeda walked and Salvador Paniagua hit a two-run to give the WhiteWings an 11-9 lead.
The Colts got one back in the bottom of the inning after loading the bases with one out against Michael Barbosa and Anderson Garcia (2-1). Landon Camp hit a single to get one in, but Trey Carter lined into a double play to end the inning.
Ronnie Gaines hit a solo home run off Garcia with one out in the top of the ninth to force extra innings.
Paniagua led off the top of the second with a double for the WhiteWings against Ezequiel Astacio. One out later, Gonzalez hit an RBI-single to make it 1-0.
The Colts responded against Greg Conrad in the bottom of the inning. Jason Crosland led off with a double. One out later, Camp hit an RBI-single. Tyler Goodro and Butch Ballez followed with singles to score Camp. Gaines hit a two-run single, after Mark Ramos was hit by a pitch and Josh Collazo hit an RBI-single to knock out Conrad. Jason Landreth followed with a two-run double off of Miguel Matos to make it 7-1.
Tejeda led off the top of the fourth with a home run. Paniagua followed with a single and Griffin doubled. Kevin Dietrich hit a grounder to third, but the throw home went wide, allowing Paniagua to score to make it 7-3.
Landreth hit a two-run home run, his sixth of the season, in the bottom of the inning to make it 9-3.
That was it against Matos, who pitched five and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out 10.
Quiroz hit a three-run home run to knock out Astacio in the top of the seventh with the score 9-6. Astacio struck out nine in six and one-third inning while giving up eight hits and one walk.
The WhiteWings get Tuesday off before kicking off an eight-game home stand on Guaranteed Win Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. against the Edinburg Roadrunners at Harlingen Field. Right-hander David Cross (1-2) is expected to face right-hander Wardell Starling (4-0).
