Mistakes Cost Dillas as Roadrunners Win 7-6, Split Series

AMARILLO, TX - Four errors by the Amarillo Dillas cost them dearly as the Edinburg Roadrunners took their chances and defeated the Dillas 7-6 on Monday night in front of 2,031 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Dillas starter Ronald Lowe (2-2) went eight innings, allowing ten hits but only one earned run, striking out six in the effort. Roadrunners starter Tim Haines (4-1) got the win as he went seven innings, gave up two earned runs and six hits while striking out six. Edinburg closer Julio Castro got his fifth save, finishing off the Dillas in the ninth inning.
For the fourth straight night, Edinburg scored in the first inning as Wilson Batista scored on an error. In the bottom half, Amarillo fought back as Alberto Cruz hit a two-out single with the bases loaded to score Joaquin Rodriguez and Carlos Figueroa for a 2-1 Dillas lead.
The Roadrunners tied the game in the third inning as Wilmer Pino led off with a double, went to third on a groundout and scored on a Ambiorix Concepcion RBI single to tie the game 2-2.
Edinburg took the lead in the fifth as Pino led off with a double, followed by a Felix Molina bunt single. With runners on the corners, Batista singled home Pino while Concepcion hit a sacrifice fly to center which scored Molina for a two-run lead. The Roadrunners added three more in the sixth off three Dillas errors for a 7-2 Edinburg lead.
Amarillo got back on the scoreboard in the eighth inning as Figueroa led off with a double and scored on a Daryl Jones RBI double. Jones would come across on an RBI by Cruz for a three-run deficit.
The Dillas put two runners on against Castro in the ninth, Figueroa doubled down the left field line, but was thrown out at third to end the game with the Dillas falling 7-6 to the Roadrunners.
With the loss, the Dillas fall to 14-12, while the Roadrunners improve to 18-7. Following a Tuesday off-day, Amarillo will take on the Laredo Broncos in Laredo for the opening game of a four-game series Wednesday at 7:35pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.laredobroncos.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
