Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

San Angelo - Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (4-4) slugger Jonathan Poterson hit home runs in his first two at-bats, giving him home runs in four consecutive at-bats dating back to yesterday's game at Amarillo, as the WhiteWings and San Angelo Colts (5-3) were suspended with the WhiteWings leading 5-2 in the top of the fourth inning tonight at Foster Field.

The game will resume tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. The WhiteWings will have Agustin Septimo at second base and Rico Santana at first. Alberto Cruz will be at-bat against left-handed reliever Jacob Ramos and Poterson will be on-deck.

This is the third consecutive game in which the weather has affected the WhiteWings. The WhiteWings and Amarillo Dillas played games that were shortened to five innings each due to rain on Wedneday and Thursday in Amarillo.

The WhiteWings got on the board right away against Brett Lester (0-0). Joaquin Rodriguez led off with a single and stole second base. One out later, Santana hit an RBI-double. An out after that, Poterson hit his fifth home run of the season to make it 3-0.

With two outs in the second, Rodriguez and Septimo walked. Santana followed with an RBI-single to make it 4-0.

In the bottom of the inning, Bryan Frichter drew a leadoff walk against Jorge Lugo (1-0). One out later, Nick Mahin hit his fourth home run of the season to make it 4-2.

Poterson led off the third with his sixth home run of the season to make it 5-2.

The WhiteWings and Colts play game two of this four-game series tomorrow night about 30 minutes following the conclusion of tonight's game at Foster Field. It will be scheduled to last seven innings. Harlingen native, Harlingen High School South alumnus (class of 2003) and University of Texas Pan-American alumnus (class of 2007) left- hander Cesar Pena (0-1) will face right-hander Ezequiel Astacio (0-0), who pitched for the Houston Astros in 2005 and 2006, including appearances in the 2005 National League Championship Series and World Series.
