Roadrunners Fall to Dillas 3-2

EDINBURG, Texas---- The Edinburg Roadrunners (6-3) lost 3-2 to the Amarillo Dillas (5-4) in the series opener on Friday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

In his second start of the season Miguel Martinez pitched eight innings allowing two runs on five hits and striking out eight hitters.

Vincent Blue started the ball game by reaching on an error by Dillas' shortstop Willie James. He then moved to second base on a throwing error by starting pitcher Richard Jessup. After moving to third on a groundout, Blue came in to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bryon Smith to give the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.

The Dillas answered right back in their half of the first inning with two runs on one hit. Terrance Mclain tied the ball game at one with an RBI single that scored Keanon Simon from third base. Trent Lockwood then hit a sacrifice fly to score Andrew Wong from third which gave the Dillas a 2-1 advantage.

In the top of the fifth inning, Robert Matlock hit an RBI single to left field which scored Amado German from third base tying the game at two.

After the first inning, Martinez had a stretch where he retired 11 straight Dillas which was ended in the bottom of the seventh inning when Stantrel Smith doubled to left center field. He ended his outing with 127 pitches thrown.

The Dillas got the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning off of Roadrunners' reliever Bryan Heaston (0-1). Sam Mclain hit a walk-off single that scored Lockwood from second to make the final score 3-2.

The Roadrunners and Dillas will play game two of their four-game series Saturday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m.
