San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO---After winning three out of four against the Amarillo Dillas at home last weekend, the Colts split a series against the Laredo Broncos. San Angelo held on for an 8-7 victory in the final game of the road trip.

The Colts jumped out to the lead, in the first inning, as Bryan Frichter continued his torrid hitting. He tattooed a pitch over the wall in left to give the Colts a one-run lead.

Progressing to the third, the Colts continued to attack. Frichter led off with a homer, his second of the contest. The United League's leading hitter was 3-4 on the night. Later in the inning, Nick Mahin went deep to left center. It was three-nothing San Angelo.

Going to the fourth, the Colts extended the lead to six courtesy of a two-run shot by Hunter Jobes and an RBI single by Mahin to center.

San Angelo had two seven-run leads during the game. The score was 8-1 after seven frames as Colts starter, Chandler Barnard, tossed seven innings while allowing one run on seven Broncos hits.

In the bottom of the eighth, however, Laredo charged back against left-handed relief pitcher, Doug Brandt. The home team scored five runs in the frame. Outfielder, David Cardona, doubled to right scoring two. Shortstop, Rafael Ozuna, followed with an RBI single to center. First baseman, Robert Moron, finished the scoring by hitting a two-run shot. Reliever, Jameson Maj, entered to record the final out of the eighth.

Chace Vacek came in but had a difficult time closing the game out. After walking the first two batters in the ninth and allowing one of them to cross home plate, Vacek took over. With runners on the corners and two out, the closer induced a Fielder Choice grounder to end the game.

The Colts improve to 5-3 on the year while the Broncos fall to 2-6. Rio Grande Valley comes to town tomorrow night as San Angelo's second homestand begins at 7:05 PM. There will be eight games in nine days, at Foster Field, which includes a bye on Tuesday.

Brett Lester will take the mound for the Colts. The right-handed pitcher came out of the bullpen, in his first professional appearance, and delivered four innings of three run ball.
