
Whitehead Leads Mississippi RiverKings over Columbus, 5-2

Mississippi RiverKings' Matt Whitehead had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 5-2 win over the Columbus Cottonmouths.
Whitehead beat Shannon Szabados with a shot 11:54 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Mississippi RiverKings. Matt Harrington provided the assist. Whitehead dished an assist on Paul Clancy's goal that made the score 1-0 Mississippi RiverKings at 16:50 into the first period. He added another helper on Harrington's goal that made the score 5-2 Mississippi RiverKings at 19:25 into the third period.
Mississippi RiverKings outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, Mississippi RiverKings averages 2.5 goals per contest. Mississippi RiverKings put 43 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30.5 it averages per game.
Mississippi RiverKings also got points from Harrington, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Mississippi RiverKings included Bryon Paulazzo and Justin Gvora, who each put in one. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Devin Mantha, Mike Grace, Burke Gallimore, and Sean Jones, who contributed one each.
Columbus' offense rang up 35 shots on Mississippi RiverKings' net.
The Cottonmouths were helped by Matt Gingera, who racked up one goal. Gingera scored on the power play 19:34 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A cross checking penalty on Leo Thomas had put Columbus on the power play. Nick Curry picked up the assist. Columbus additionally got points from Louis Belisle, who also racked up one goal and one assist.
Peter Di Salvo recorded 33 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Cottonmouths' Szabados stopped 38 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Columbus totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
