SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Mississippi RiverKings (2-4-0) held two separate one-goal leads, then scored the final three goals en route to a 5-2 win over the Columbus Cottonmouths (0-5-0) Friday night at the Landers Center. It's the second straight home win for the RiverKings, who improve to 2-2-0 at the Landers Center this season.

The game was scoreless for much of the first period, until the RiverKings earned a power play with 5:05 left in the first. Although the power play struggled to maintain pressure in the offensive zone for much of the power play, Paul Clancy started a rush in the neutral zone, went into the offensive zone and fired a shot from the right circle. It beat Cottonmouths goalie Shannon Szabados over the shoulder for a 1-0 lead with 3:10 left in the first. Matt Harrington and Matt Whitehead picked up assists on Clancy's first goal of the season.

The Cottonmouths responded with a late power-play goal of their own as Nick Curry converted on a pass from Matt Gingera with 26 seconds remaining in the period.

The RiverKings quickly grabbed the lead again to start the second period. Bryon Paulazzo fired a shot right off a faceoff win by Devin Mantha. It beat Szabados to give the RiverKings a 2-1 lead 3:54 into the second. Later in the period the RiverKings turned the puck over in the defensive zone and Louis Belisle took a shot from the left blue line which found its way past Peter Di Salvo. The RiverKings grabbed their third lead of the game with 2:49 to play in the second. Justin Gvora lifted a shot from in close past Szabados for his first goal of the season. Burke Gallimore and Sean Jones collected assists on the goal.

The RiverKings built on that lead in the third. Whitehead took a pass from Mike Grace, delayed in the high slot, then flicked a shot just under the crossbar for a 4-2 lead at 11:54. Harrington earned his second assist of the game on the goal. Harrington would cap the scoring with an empty-net goal, sealing a 5-2 RiverKings win, with Whitehead getting the lone assist.

The RiverKings went 1-for-3 on the power play and ended with a season-high 43 shots on goal. Peter Di Salo, celebrating his 24th birthday, stopped 33 shots for his second straight win.
