West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Pitching paved the way for a West Michigan Whitecaps victory as they downed the Fort Wayne TinCaps for the third straight time 4-1 Friday night in front of 5,221 fans at LMCU Ballpark.
Tigers top-30 prospect Keider Montero allowed only one run through six innings pitched with a pair of strikeouts in the victory, while the bullpen tossed three more no-hit innings after their combined no-hitter on Thursday night.
Rey Rivera opened the scoring with an RBI-double in the second inning before Eric De La Rosa scored Gage Workman with a single to put the 'Caps out in front 2-0. Ethan Skender plated the only run for Fort Wayne with a base hit of his own in the fourth. In the bottom of the frame, Andrew Navigato sent a run-scoring single into left field before Workman delivered a run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half to close the book on the Whitecaps offensive performance en route to their third straight victory.
Montero (4-6) collects his fourth win on the campaign in his first quality start since June 20th. Fort Wayne reliever Danny Denz (0-1) lasted only 2.2 innings, allowing a pair of runs on four hits in his first defeat this year. Jared Tobey tossed a perfect ninth inning while striking out two to collect his second save of the season. The Whitecaps improve to 30-33 as the TinCaps fall to 28-36. Parker Meadows extended his hitting streak to ten games to tie outfielder Daniel Cabrera for the team's longest hitting streak during the 2021 season, finishing 1-for-3 on the night. Workman collected a pair of singles as part of the 'Caps 30th win of the season.
