
Whitecaps FC and Defender Marcel De Jong Mutually Agree to Part Ways

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Monday that the club has parted ways with left back Marcel de Jong. The club and de Jong have mutually agreed to a contract termination - a portion of de Jong's contract will remain on the club's 2019 Major League Soccer salary budget.
"We are thankful to Marcel for his contributions," said Whitecaps FC head coach Marc Dos Santos. "He has served this club professionally and we wish him well in the future. The move allows Marcel to explore other opportunities, while we continue to make changes to our roster in preparation for the upcoming season."
De Jong, 32, recorded six assists in 38 starts and 46 appearances across all competitions in two plus seasons with Whitecaps FC, arriving in Vancouver in July 2016.
