Charlotte Knights News Release

FORT MILL, S.C. - July 9, 2009 - The Charlotte Knights had everything working for them as they were able to prevent Norfolk from getting the sweep as they beat the Tides 7-1. The Knights pounded out 15 hits in the game.

The Knights starting pitcher was Chicago White Sox pitcher Bartolo Colon who down on a major league rehab assignment. Colon finally reported to Charlotte after the White Sox were unable to locate the former American League Cy Young Award winner. The Knights were thankful that Colon did show, as he showed no signs of rust.

Colon pitched his scheduled 5.0 innings and gave up just one run off of two hits in the game. Colon threw mostly fastballs but was able to fool some Tides hitters with his changeup.

The Knights got great pitching throughout the game as Colon was backed up by Knights All-Star Carlos Torres who pitched the final four innings without allowing a run.

Outfielder Josh Kroeger had a big game with two home runs in the game, the first of which followed Michael Restovich's solo shot in the second inning. Kroeger is the third Knights player to have a two homer game this season.

The Knights will start a three game series with the Gwinnett Braves tomorrow. RHP Lucas Harrell (0-1, 5.73 ERA) is scheduled to make a rehab start with the Knights. LHP Johnny Venters (0-2, 6.35) will take the mound for the Braves. Game time is 7:15 p.m.

The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. For ticket or event information, please contact the Knights front office at (704) 357-8071 or (803) 548-8050 or visit our website at www.charlotteknights.com for more information.
