Dale Thayer named to International League All-Star Team

July 9, 2009 - International League (IL1)
Durham Bulls News Release

Durham, NC - The International League today announced Bulls relief pitcher Dale Thayer was selected to the 2009 International All-Star team. Thayer, who replaces Clay Buchholz on the IL squad, will join infielder Reid Brignac as the two Bulls representatives at the 2009 Triple-A All-Star Game.

The right-handed closer will be making a return trip to the Midsummer Classic after earning a spot on last year's IL All-Star squad while with the Bulls. Thayer and Brignac will join seven other IL All-Stars as returnees to the Triple-A All-Star game.

In 32 relief appearances this season, Thayer has logged 39 1/3 innings with a 1.82 ERA while converting 13 of his 16 save opportunities, good for fifth best in the IL in terms of saves. This year also marked Thayer's Major League debut after being recalled to the Tampa Bay Rays on May 22. That same day, he made his first big league appearance at Florida where he tossed three innings of one-hit, one-run ball to earn his first Major League save.

Thayer, Brignac and 27 other standouts from the IL will take on the All-Stars from the Pacific Coast League in the 22nd annual Triple-A All-Star Game, slated for July 15 in Portland, Oregon.

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. pacific daylight time and can be seen live on ESPN2.
