
Whistler Blows by Chiefs for Shutout Victory

FORT MILL, S.C. - May 2, 2009 - Behind a strong start by Wes Whistler and a 13-hit barrage at the plate, the Charlotte Knights were able to shut down Syracuse 4-0 in front of 6,404 fans. Whistler (2-2, 1.95) went 7 innings striking out 7 Chiefs in route to his second win of the season. Jon Link recorded the final six outs of the game to preserve the win.
The Knights batters gave Whistler early support in the bottom of the 1st, when Michael Restovich's RBI double to left, brought home Eider Torres giving the Knights a 1-0 lead. The next batter Brian Myrow, singled to left to score Josh Kroger making it 2-0.
Kroger, who was 2-2 on the night, hit a solo home run in the 3rd, increasing Charlotte's lead to 3-0. Andy Phillips sac fly in the 6th brought in the Knights final run at 4-0. Phillips replaced Javier Castillo in the top of the 4th after he was hit in the shoulder by a pitch.
The Knights and Chiefs will conclude their series Sunday at 2:15 p.m. RHP Kelvin Jimenez (1-0, 6.75 ERA) starts for Charlotte, RHP Marco Estrada (1-0, 2.29 ERA) gets the nod Syracuse.
