Bulls earn split with win over Columbus

Durham Bulls News Release
(Durham, NC) Durham jumped on the scoreboard with three runs in the third inning and never looked back, winning 4-2 Sunday and splitting their four-game series with Columbus. With the win, the Bulls move to 14-9 and keep a hold of their first place spot in their division while remaining undefeated in home-series play.
The Bulls jumped ahead early with a two-run bases loaded single from Ray Sadler followed by a sacrifice bunt from Craig Albernaz putting the Bulls up 3-0 in the second inning.
Columbus answered back, plating two runs in the next half inning to cut Durham's lead to 3-2. Those two tallies would be all the Bulls' staff would allow as the Clippers were only 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 14 runners stranded, the most by a Durham opponent all season.
Starting pitcher Wade Davis picked up his third win of the year, the most of any member of the Bulls' starting rotation. He lasted five innings, allowing two runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
He was followed up by three members of the Durham bullpen, including former All-Star Jason Isringhausen, who made his first appearance with the Bulls Sunday as he continues his minor league rehab assignment. Isringhausen threw one scoreless inning retiring all three batters he faced.
He was followed up by Randy Choate and Winston Abreu who both kept the Clippers scoreless with Abreau picking up the save, his third of the year, after closing the game out in the ninth.
Durham was able to add one more run in the fifth with a double from Jon Weber scoring Albernaz from first. In all, the Bulls offense was able to put the ball in play often, collecting seven hits and two walks while striking out a season-low two times.
They look to continue their season long home series winning streak Monday as they begin a new two-game series with Charlotte. Left-hander Carlos Hernandez takes the mound with first pitch scheduled for 7:05.
