Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba -- The Western Hockey League's Wheat Kings expect to have two veterans back in the lineup Saturday night when they a 3-game win streak on the line against the visiting Swift Current Broncos at the Keystone Centre.
After missing most of the pre-season and the first three games of the regular season, 20-year old defenceman Tyler Boldt and 18-year left-winger Jamison Orr are anxious to make their season debuts this weekend.
"It's a hard thing to watch, especially a home opener of all games, and then listening to one on the radio when you're sitting at home all alone," Boldt recently told Bruce Luebke of 880 CKLQ. "It gets to be a long time, especially when you're trying to have a good last year hear. It's more anxious than I've ever been."
A former member of the Kamloops Blazers, who was obtained on New Years Day 2004 in a WHL blockbuster, Boldt is one of three overage defencemen on the Wheat Kings' roster. With captain Tim Konsorada expected to remain in Brandon this season, one of the blueliners will have to be moved before the October 14th league imposed deadline for declaring 20-year olds.
A younger brother to former Regina Pat Colton Orr, Jamison will be making his WHL debut with the Wheat Kings after being suffering a shoulder injury during the pre-season. A former Manitoba AAA Midget League scoring star, the Winnipeg product was picked up from the Lethbridge Hurricanes in August. In 35 games last season, Orr scored three times for the 'Canes.
17-year old right-winger Ryan Reaves meanwhile is questionable for the weekend as he recovers from a knee injury suffered on September 25th in Regina.
Winners of nine consecutive regular season games, dating back to February 2004, the Wheat Kings will be playing their first game since last Saturday when they doubled up on the Red Deer Rebels 4-2 at the Keystone Centre.
Following Saturday's game against the Broncos, the Wheats will hit the road for their first overnight road trip of the season, playing in Saskatoon on Tuesday night and Moose Jaw on Wednesday, before returning home to face the Blades on Friday night.
This Saturday's game is a presentation of the BIC Comfort 3 Shaver and among the many groups expected to attend will be southwestern Manitoba's Brandon Sun carriers, who will be in town this weekend to celebrate National Paper Carriers Day.
Saturday is also Sport Chek Family Night - which includes 2 adult and 2 youth tickets, 4 Maple Leaf hot dogs, 4 Coca Colas, 4 programs and a chance to win some terrific prizes from Sport Chek - for just $40. Family packages are available at both the Wheat Kings' office and at Sport Chek in Shoppers Mall.
Individual tickets are on sale at the Keystone box office, by calling 726-3555 or on line at ticketmaster.ca.
