Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba - The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings have unveiled plans to join forces with Paterson Grain, the Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation and the local business community for this year's "Goals for Kids" campaign.

As in past years, several local businesses will serve as corporate sponsors this winter. Each time the Wheat Kings score a goal, these sponsors will donate to the Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation. All proceeds will go towards helping to make a dream come true for western Manitoba children that suffer from serious illnesses.

The Wheat Kings' "Goals for Kids" campaign was established during the 1992-93 WHL season and has raised over $140,000 since then. The program is designed to give area businesses the opportunity to be involved with the hockey club, create brand recognition and help the Westman Dreams for Kids.

Entering tonight's game in Vancouver against the Giants, Brandon's second stop on it's longest road trip of the 2004-05 campaign, the Wheat Kings have scored 39 goals in eleven games, which translates to approximately $1,000 in donations.

"At Westman Dreams for Kids, we have one simple goal," says Goals for Kids coordinator and Foundation past president Al Rosendaal, "to give children who are facing a serious illness, and their families, something to smile about. The overwhelming support that we have received over the years from the local corporate community has made this program extremely successful and we look forward to more of the same this season."

Among the Brandon businesses joining Paterson Grain as participating sponsors this year are BDO Dunwoody, Wheat City Journal, Diamond Waterworks, Rally Caps Bar and Grill, J & G Supply, Patterson Patterson Wyman & Abel, O'Kellys Pub & Restaurant, Jason Kreiser (Keystone Centre), Al Rosendaal of Investors Group, Morningstar Metals, Northside Mazda, Richmond Signs, Lennon/Trilogy Manitoba Land Surveyors, Rally Caps Bar and Grill, Premier Financial, Wheat City Roofing, Molson Canadian, Brandon Business Interiors, Advance Auto Body, Source for Sports, A Plus Trophies, Kuipers Bakery, The Little Chalet, Sandy Boychuk of Century 21, Dr. Brian Kiliwnik as Scott Ball, Jake Zorzos and Ken Campbell of Precision Toyota.

The hockey club has also confirmed that the Keystone Centre and Goals for Kids will again host an annual Skills Day, to be held on Sunday, January 23rd.

The Wheat Kings next home game will be Thursday, November 11th at 2:30 p.m. when they play host to the defending Western Conference Champion Everett Silvertips. The first three thousand fans attending the annual Remembrance Day game will receive a full color Eric Fehr poster, compliments of Simplot Agribusiness.
