Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba -- Two teams riding 5-game win streaks collide Wednesday night at Westman Communications Group Place.
The Brandon Wheat Kings, who are returning home after a successful 4-game road trip that saw them score victories in Saskatoon, Cranbrook, Lethbridge and Calgary, will be hoping to regain top spot in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division. The Red Deer Rebels meanwhile will be hoping to continue their winning ways after opening up a 4-game road trip with a 3-2 Overtime Shootout victory in Regina on Tuesday night.
Brandon enters the game with a record of 35-16-0-3, good for 73 points - one back of the front running Saskatoon Blades, who travel to Prince Albert to face the Raiders on Wednesday.
The Rebels are 29-19-0-4, good for 62 points, which leaves them six points behind Calgary and second place in the Central Division.
Red Deer is 11-12-0-2 on the road this season and 5-2-0-1 in their last eight games played away from home. Willie Coetzee leads the Rebels in scoring with 24 goals and 70 points including one in Tuesday's victory in Regina.
While Coetzee has four goals and 9 points over the course of his last five games, Brandon right-winger Scott Glennie enters the game riding a personal 6-game point scoring streak and was recently named winner of the Wheat Kings' Tip Top Tailors Player of the Month Award for leading the club in scoring in January.
Although tonight's Starting goaltending assignment hasn't been announced, veteran Jacob DeSerres has compiled some pretty fair numbers over his last five starts. In addition to posting a 5-0 record, the former Seattle Thunderbird has put together a 1.71 goals against average and a.935 save percentage.
Wednesday's game is the first of back to back home games this week for the Wheat Kings, who play host to the Kootenay Ice on Friday. Brandon will travel to Saskatoon on Saturday before returning home to host Jordan Eberle and the Regina Pats on Tuesday night.
Puck drop Wednesday is 7 p.m.
Tickets to Brandon's upcoming home games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
