Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings have clinched home ice advantage for their first round playoff series next month.

The Wheat Kings did so Wednesday night with a 4-2 victory over the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes. Not only did the Wheat Kings keep pace with the Eastern Division leading Saskatoon Blades with the win, they ran their winning streak to five games.

With the victory, Brandon improved its record to 43-16-3-1, good for 90 points - four back of the Blades entering this weekend's pivotal 2-game series at Westman Place. Saskatoon doubled Moose Jaw 8-4 on Wednesday.

The Wheat Kings will play host to games one and two of their best of seven Western Hockey League Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Friday and Saturday, March 20th and 21st. Tickets to Brandon's first two playoff games will go on sale early next week at the Keystone Centre box office.

In Wednesday's victory, second period goals by Aaron Lewadniuk, Matt Calvert and Jay Fehr snapped a 1-1 first period tie and the Wheat Kings never looked back.

Andrew Clark, with his team leading 37th goal of the season, also scored for the Wheat Kings, who received a stellar 34-save performance from 17-year old netminder James Priestner. The former Kamloops Blazer improved his record to 16-6-1-1 and his goals against average to 2.77 on the season.

Zach Boychuk and Colton Sceviour replied for the 'Canes, who remain in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 30-28-3-2.

Tickets to Friday and Saturday's games against the Blades are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office. Fans can also order by phone at 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca
