Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Calgary, AB. - Brandon's busy 3-game Western Hockey League weekend has come to an end with the Wheat Kings doubling up on the hometown Calgary Hitmen 6-3.

With the win, the Wheat Kings captured two of three games to improve to 33-24-3-2 on the season.

The win also moved Brandon to within a point of the third place Regina Pats in the Eastern Division and more importantly, moved them six points up on fifth place Saskatoon and eight ahead of the Prince Albert Raiders.

Brandon closes out this road trip Tuesday night with a very big game in Prince Albert.

As for Sunday's game - the Hitmen scored the only goal of the first but Brandon scored three in the second to take a one goal lead to the dressing room after forty minutes.

In the third, the two teams would exchange goals before Brandon put the game away with back to back empty netters by Ty Lewis and Ben McCartney. For Lewis it was his second of the night.

Luka Burzan, Schael Higson and Cole Reinhardt - with his third goal of the weekend - rounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who got 45 saves from the game's first star Logan Thompson.

Reinhardt scored the overtime winner on Saturday when the Wheat Kings edged the Tigers 4-3 in Medicine Hat.

"Our group is getting some confidence here," coach David Anning told the Brandon Sun following the game. "We were able to win (Saturday) night and you could tell we were in the right frame of mind and understood what it was going to take today. It wasn't an easy task by any means. It was a good challenge for our team and we had to really dig in."

Following Tuesday's game against the Raiders, the Wheat Kings will return home to host the league leading Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night.

Tickets to the game are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
