GAME NOTES: The WHEAT KINGS will be looking to snap a 4-game losing streak Friday night when they kick off a 2-game weekend home stand against the VANCOUVER GIANTS at the Keystone Centre.BRANDON hasn't won since outscoring the SWIFT CURRENT BRONCOS 8-5 on November 4th.Three of those losses came at the hands of the red hot SASKATOON BLADES, who outscored the WHEAT KINGS 15-6 in those three games.The other loss was a 5-0 setback in MOOSE JAW.BRANDON'S last game was Sunday night when the BLADES broke open a tight game with four second period goals en route to an easy 7-2 victory in SASKATOON.BLADES got goals from seven different players while CODEY BURKI and DEREK LEBLANC, with his team leading tenth goal of the season replied for the WHEAT KINGS, who enter the weekend sitting last in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division with a record of 5-15-2-1, good for thirteen points.At home, BRANDON is 4-4-2 but on the road the WHEAT KINGS have struggled to a 1-11-0-1 mark.In games against Eastern Division rivals, BRANDON is 2-5-1.Against Western Division teams, the WHEATS are 1-5-1-1.Their only win came during their west coast road swing when they beat the TRI-CITY AMERICANS 4-3.BRANDON is 1-3-1 in the month of November and will close out this weekend home stand Saturday night against the struggling PRINCE ALBERT RAIDERS.
VS. VANCOUVER:
This is the one and only meeting of the season between these two clubs.BRANDON was a 2-1 loser to the GIANTS last winter with DEREK LEBLANC scoring the WHEAT KINGS' lone goal.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
During this 4-game slide, the WHEAT KINGS have gone 0-23 with the man advantage.Penalty killing, BRANDON has surrendered nine powerplay goals in its last three games.Overall, BRANDON'S powerplay is 12-118 (10.2%), currently ranked 19th in the WHL while its penalty killing is 20th (74.6%).
MILESTONES:
Last Saturday night's 3-gaol effort vs. SWIFT CURRENT was the first of DEREK LEBLANC'S 3-year WHL career.17-year old rookie ANDREW CLARK picked up his first two WHL points - both assists - during the same game.Defenceman RILEY DAY is nine games away from 200 in his Western League career.
INJURIES:
JEFF TOPILKO (broken leg) is out indefinitely.
BRANDON BITS:
.WHEATS are 1-2-1 in four overtime games this year and 1-1 in Overtime Shootouts.WHEATS are 2-7-0 in one-goal games this season.Netminder TYLER PLANTE captured the first segment in this year's MOLSON CUP THREE STAR PROGRAM.BRANDON has opened the scoring in six of 23 games..DEREK LEBLANC leads the club in scoring (10-7-17) and plus minus with an impressive +8 ranking.
