Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings, in conjunction with Purolator Courier, have announced plans to assist with this year's "Drive Away Hunger" Food Drive at Friday's Western Hockey League game against the visiting Tri-City Americans.
Western Manitoba hockey fans attending Friday's game are being encouraged to bring a food donation with them. All food collected at the game will be donated to the 2008 Farm Credit Canada Drive Away Hunger Campaign.
This year's Drive Away Hunger tour runs from October 14-16th and because more than 36,000 people use food banks in Manitoba each month, FCC is bringing the agriculture industry, local businesses and Manitobans together to collect 100,000 pounds of food to help feed hungry people in the province.
Friday night's collection at Westman Place, made possible through the generous support of Purolator Courier, will serve as an ideal kick-off to this year's tour.
Western Manitoba's tour will begin Tuesday, October 14th in Shoal Lake and will include stops in Strathclair, Minnedosa, Carberry, Neepawa, Douglas and Brandon.
Drive Away Hunger is an annual program that started in 2004 and has so far raised almost one million pounds of food for Canadian food banks.
This year's campaign will be taking place in Alberta, Manitoba and Nova Scotia.
On the ice, the Wheat Kings will be out to stop a 2-game losing streak when they face off against the Americans Friday night. Tickets are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca
