Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Saskatoon, Sask. -- Fresh off Friday night's impressive 4-0 victory over the Central Division leading Kootenay Ice, the Brandon Wheat Kings travel to Saskatoon Saturday night for another round in the Battle for the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference.
The Wheat Kings moved into first place in the WHL's overall standings with Friday night's win and with that victory, they remain one point up on the second place Blades in the Conference. Saskatoon kept pace with Brandon last night with a 5-4 Overtime Shootout win in Regina.
Winners of seven straight games, the Wheat Kings enter Saturday's game having won four of five meetings between the two teams this season, including a 5-2 win two weeks ago.
While Matt Calvert (8-1-9) and Brayden Schenn (1-8-9) lead Brandon in scoring against the Blades in this year's season series, its right-winger Scott Glennie that enters the game as the hottest scoring Wheat King. The Dallas Stars first round draft choice, who was chosen Brandon's Tip Top Player of the Month for January, is currently riding a personal 8-game point scoring streak. During that stretch, the Winnipeg product has seven goals and 19 points.
In Friday's win, Glennie had a goal and an assist for the Wheat Kings, who led 1-0 and 2-0 at the period breaks. Schenn, Aaron Lewadniuk and Alexander Urbom also scored for the Wheat Kings, who received a stellar 16-save performance in goal by veteran Jacob DeSerres. The shutout was his first as a Wheat King and eighth of his Western League career.
