
Blades Fight Back to Beat Wheat Kings

Gaelan Patterson (Saskatoon, SK) capped an impressive come-from-behind outburst with a marker at 2:01 of overtime as the Saskatoon Blades defeated the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-3.
Darian Dziurzynski (Lloydminster, AB), Walker Wintoneak (Flin Flon, MB), Stefan Elliott (North Vancouver, BC), and Patterson scored for the Blades, who move back into a first place tie with the Wheat Kings atop both the East Division and the Eastern Conference.
Brandon - 1st - Toni Rajala (Aaron Lewadniuk) 1:22 The Wheat Kings jumped out to a 1-0 lead a little over a minute into the game. Lewadniuk forced a turnover in the Blades' end and fed Rajala in front for his 18th marker of the season.
Brandon - 1st - Shayne Wiebe (Mark Stone, Brodie Melnychuk) 1:58 Wiebe made it 2-0 just 36 seconds later on his 19th of the year. A shot by Stone from the point was stopped by goaltender Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) but Wiebe grabbed the rebound and put it home for a two-goal lead.
Brandon - 1st - Matt Calvert (Brayden Schenn) 5:11 sh Brandon went up 3-0 on the 36th goal of the season by Calvert. The Wheaties' captain deked out a Blades' defender, move in tight to the crease and beat Stanford blocker side.
Saskatoon - 1st - Dziurzynski (Jyri Niemi) 13:28 Dziurzynski got the Blades on the board before the opening frame was out. The 18-year-old carried the puck into the offensive zone down the left side, moved towards the middle, spun, and deposited his 10th of the year.
Saskatoon - 3rd - Wintoneak (Patterson) 3:45 sh The Blades made it a 3-2 hockey game early in the third period on Wintoneak's 22nd on the campaign. The overage forward moved down his off wing, stopped at the top of the left circle, and put a wrist shot blocker side that eluded goaltender Jacob De Serres.
Saskatoon - 3rd - Elliott (Josh Nicholls, Marek Viedensky) 14:46 pp Elliott completed the comeback with his 20th of the season after the Blades had just gone on the power play. The home squad won the faceoff, Nicholls (Tsawwassen, BC) directed it to Elliott at the point, and the 19-year-old sent a wrist shot through a crowd glove side putting the Credit Union Centre crowd into a frenzy.
Saskatoon - OT - Patterson (Wintoneak) 2:01 The Blades secured the victory on Patterson's 18th of the season just over two minutes into the overtime session. Wintoneak sent the puck from the corner to the back of the net for Patterson. The veteran Blades forward then spun to the front of the net and put a wrist shot that found the top corner and gave the Blades the taste of victory.
Stanford stopped 19 of 22 shots sent his way to earn the victory in goal for the Blades. De Serres turned aside 36 of 40 shots at the Brandon end in defeat.
Final score Saskatoon Blades 4, Brandon Wheat Kings 3 (OT).
With the win, the Blades go to 36-12-3-3 for 78 points. The Wheat Kings drop to 37-16-1-3 for 78 points on the season.
