Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba - With less than two weeks to go before the Brandon Wheat Kings kick off their 2009-10 regular season, the Western Hockey League club is excited to announce that 3,302 Season Tickets have been sold for the upcoming season.

Tuesday afternoon, the WHL club surpassed the 3,300 mark, up from last year's franchise record total of 2,780. Of those sold, well over 600 are new season ticket holders.

Those fans that have purchased 2009-10 Season Tickets will now have until October 15th to purchase their 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup ticket package.

Because the club must provide the Canadian Hockey League with 1,800 seats for this prestigious event, only the first 3,302 season ticket holders will be guaranteed their seat for the Championship, scheduled for Brandon's Keystone Centre May 14th - 23rd. However, Wheat Kings' coach and general manager Kelly McCrimmon has approached the CHL in hopes that a block of those will be returned to the Host Committee.

"Currently the Canadian Hockey League is holding 1,800 tickets for sponsors, the three major junior leagues and CHL teams," says McCrimmon. "We have approached the CHL to see if they will turn back an allotment of Memorial Cup packages to help us meet local demand."

"If we are successful, we will continue to have the ability to guarantee new season ticket holders the right to purchase a Memorial Cup package," McCrimmon went on to say.

To order 2009-10 Season Tickets, which remain the lowest in the WHL at $325 for adults ($9 per game) and $175 for youth (18 and under), fans are encouraged to visit the Wheat Kings' office or call 726-3535.
