
Wheat Kings Get Back on Win Column

BRANDON M.B. - The Brandon Wheat Kings get scoring from unlikely sources in a win 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings.
It was a great start to the game with the Wheat Kings putting up 17 shots in the opening frame and adding a goal to go with it. After a faceoff win for Zakhar Polshakov, Caleb Hadland play the puck up to the point allowing Andrei Malyavin and Charlie Elick to play the puck back and fourth to eachother allowing Elick to one time a slap shot through traffic giving the Wheat Kings a 1-0 lead after one.
The second period the Wheat Kings found the net again with Caleb Hadland scoring his 1st WHL goal to make it 2-0. Some solid penalty killing for the Wheat Kings in the 2nd frame kept it 2-0 heading into the third period.
The Oil Kings made things interesting with Gavin Hodnett scoring off a breakaway to cut the lead in half with just under 12 minutes remaining in regulation. The Wheat Kings would take over with Dawson Pasternak scoring an insurance tally to make it 3-1 then with only 11 seconds to go Head Coach and General Manager Marty Murray would send out Matt Henry along with Calder Anderson and Nolan Ritchie with the net empty on the Oil Kings side. With seconds left Ritchie would find Matt Henry open in the slot allowing Henry to score his 1st WHL goal to make it a 4-1 final for the Wheat Kings.
