Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings and their many fans across western Manitoba will have an opportunity to pay back to their respective communities this weekend when the Western Hockey League club plays host to the visiting Kootenay Ice and Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday and Saturday nights respectively.

During the second intermission of Friday night's game, fans will have a chance to "Chuck-a-Puck" for a chance to win some great prizes, in support of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Sponge pucks will be sold throughout the Keystone Centre concourse before and during the game, which is the second of a 4-game home stand. Friday's game will mark the season debut of the Wheat Kings - PhysioFirst event that will support ten local charities during the 2015-16 campaign.

Meanwhile fans attending Saturday night's game are being encouraged to bring non perishable food items as the WHL club, in association with Heritage Co-op, are teaming up with Farm Credit Canada and hosting a stop of FCC's Annual Drive Away Hunger Tour.

Volunteers from FCC and Heritage Co-op will be collecting food and cash donations before the game.

"While hunger continues to be a reality in Canada, we are inspired by companies, who are dedicated to helping their neighbours in need," says Food Banks Canada Executive Director Katharine Schmidt. "Close to 850,000 men, women and children are assisted by a food bank each month and FCC's programs aim to directly assist food banks in their community work."

All donations collected at the game will go to Brandon's Samaritan House, which is in dire need of nonperishable food items this year.

"This is an excellent opportunity for Heritage Co-op and the Wheat Kings to assist this worthwhile program," says Heritage Co-op General Manager Lorne Zacharias. "Because western Manitobans have been so good to us, we are always looking for ways to support our communities. This is another way for us to lend support to a program that will benefit individuals and families in this area."

In an effort to reward those many fans that do attend Saturday's game, Heritage Co-op will give those in attendance one full week to redeem their ticket stub and receive a discount on fuel purchases at participating locations in Brandon, Minnedosa, Wawanesa and Erickson. For each goal that the Wheat Kings score, ticket holders will receive a cent per litre discount.

Each year, FCC partners with local food banks, schools, businesses, community groups and its customers to help fight hunger in Manitoba and across the country through the Drive Away Hunger program. 100% of donations go to Canadian food banks, like the Samaritan House, and anyone can visit www.fccdriveawayhunger.ca to make a cash donation.

Tickets to both weekend games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at www.keystonecentre.com.
