Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A new playing surface, lower ticket prices, unique promotions, varied dining options, and one-of-a-kind giveaways highlight some of the new additions for fans as the River Cats prepare to open the 2013 season.
The following is a brief synopsis of what's new at Raley Field for the River Cats' 14th season:
* Lower prices. The River Cats have lowered ticket prices in most premium seating sections, and expanded the Senate section to enhance the fan experience. This season, 74% of all available seats at Raley Field are priced at $22 or less on game day, with a $2-per-ticket discount for advanced purchase.
* Twice the fireworks. Sutter Health Fireworks Saturdays return in 2013, with the addition of Fireworks Fridays. Including the July 3 Independence Day Celebration, Raley Field will see 22 fireworks shows this season.
* New recurring promotions. The River Cats have added a pair of recurring promotions: every Monday, fans will be treated to Throwback Mondays presented by Cache Creek, featuring Sacramento Solons throwback uniforms on the field, 50-cent popcorn and peanuts, and organ music by Gus the Organ Guy. Also, Free Parking Wednesdays presented by Jiffy Lube offers just that: free parking at every Wednesday game, excluding July 3.
* New food options. Raley Field will see an expanded menu this season, with the addition of Island Noodle (near the Coca-Cola Kids Corner) and The Wicked 'Wich (serving Jack Daniel's Solon Club patrons beginning in mid-April). Both are local vendors that will feature gluten-free and vegan options to complement traditional fare. Also, Subway will now be featured in a concession stand-instead of a kiosk-with an expanded menu that will include hot sandwiches.
* New field. Raley Field underwent its most complete field renovation ever this offseason, with a complete sod replacement, new mound and plate areas, and refinished bullpens.
* Nine bobbleheads. At nine games this season, 2,500 fans will receive a bobblehead of one of the nine greatest River Cats of all time, as voted on by the fans. In addition, 2,500 fans showing up at the first bobblehead giveaway on May 19 will receive a bobblefield to keep track of all nine bobbleheads.
* Top-notch baseball. The River Cats' Opening Day roster will likely feature five former A's first-round draft picks: James Simmons (2007), Jemile Weeks (2008), Grant Green (2009), Michael Choice (2010) and Sonny Gray (2011). Also, new manager Steve Scarsone will bring a new energy to the team as the Cats look to win their seventh-straight division championship.
