The Gary SouthShore RailCats, who will begin play in the 2002 Northern League season, will unveil the team mascot to their fans for the first time at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at the Southlake Mall in Merrillville, IN.

The RailCats will host this event during their 2002 Spring Training. There will be free games, clowns and face painters and RailCats tattoos for children. The RailCats players and coaches will be available to sign autographs and there will be plenty of fun and games for the entire family. There will also be a booth offering a variety of merchandise and souvenir items for the first time to RailCats fans.

The winners for the "Mascot Coloring Contest" sponsored by the RailCats along with The Times newspaper and Indiana 105 will also be announced at this event. Entry forms for the contest, which began on Sunday, April 21 and ended on Friday, May 3 were available in The Times and at participating schools. The winners will be drawn at random for different age groups and announced during the mascot unveiling at the Southlake Mall.
