December 13, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
MISSISSAUGA - In their first-ever game outside of the United States, the Westchester Knicks (9-3), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, outlasted the Raptors 905 (3-8) for a 107-101 win in Canada.
The teams battled it out in the first, going shot-for-shot and trading leads five times. Neither team led by more than four until a Melvin Johnson III jumper from downtown pushed the Raptors 905 up by five to end the first 12 minutes. An 11-point second quarter from Jimmer Fredette gave the Knicks a needed lift but a balanced scoring bout gave the Raptors the edge, as the team from Canada led by two heading into the second half.
A putback layup from Canadian native Jordan Bachynski put the Knicks ahead three minutes into the third but the Raptors 905 creeped back to hold the lead for the majority of the quarter. With under a minute to go, a 5-0 run from Westchester put the Knicks back on top heading into the fourth. Though the Raptors 905 kept it close, the final quarter was nothing but Knicks as the boys in blue held onto the lead to eventually seal the win 107-101.
Jimmer Fredette led Westchester in the win with 21 points, adding three each of assists, rebounds, and steals. Sean Marshall had another solid night off the bench with 20 points, grabbing seven boards with two assists and two steals. Thanasis Antetokounmpo finished the night with 14 points, while Jordan Bachynski notched his second double-double in a row, adding 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Ronald Roberts Jr. with a huge night for the Raptors 905, had a monster double-double with 21 points and 20 rebounds. Delon Wright also finished with a double-double, collecting 18 points and 10 assists, also grabbing seven rebounds. Also with 18 points each, Melvin Johnson III and Axel Toupane rounded out the top scorers for the Raptors 905.
The Westchester Knicks face the Maine Red Claws next as they travel to Portland for a back-to-back, the first contest on Friday, Dec. 18 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on MSG2 and the NBA Development League's YouTube channel.
