Lexington Legends News Release
CHARLESTON, WV. - The West Virginia Power made sure that the Lexington Legends trip home would seem longer than the three hours it takes to travel from Charleston back to the bluegrass. The Power scored two in the eighth and one in the tenth to beat the Legends 4-3.
The Legends broke the trend of West Virginia scoring first with two runs in the second inning. Consecutive walks to Jimmy Van Ostrand and Koby Clemens set the table. Eric Taylor and Drew Holder followed with RBI singles to make it 2-0.
West Virginia got one back with an unearned run in the third inning. Koby Clemens throwing error placed catcher Andy Bouchie on second base. Jimmy Mojica doubled to right field to score Bouchie.
The Power got the lead with two runs in the eighth inning. Steve Chapman and Jimmy Mojica walked and both scored on Brent Brewer's single to right field.
Their advantage didn't last long. The Legends got a run with Drew Holder's bases loaded sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning.
West Virginia ended the game in dramatic fashion. Michael Brantley drilled his first homer of the year over the right field wall to give the Power a 4-3 win.
Sergio Severino got the loss with two innings allowing just the Brantley homer. Starter Polin Trinidad was outstanding tossing seven innings with allowing an earned run. Trinidad struck out a season high eight batters.
The Legends return to Applebee's Park on Tuesday night for a six game homestand. The first four will be against the Lake County Captains. Casey Hudspeth will start against the Legends while the Captains will send right-hander Hector Rondon. First pitch is set for 7:05pm with Legends network coverage beginning at 6:50pm.
Tuesday night is Quarter hotdog night Applebee's Park. Please contact the Applebee's Park box office at 859-422-RUNS (7867) for more information about tickets.
