GRANVILLE, W.Va. - The West Virginia Black Bears fell to the Frederick Keys, 5-3, at Monongalia County Ballpark on Sunday afternoon. Right-handed pitcher Mark Faello started for the Black Bears, throwing seven innings while giving up just one run in Sunday's loss.

After dropping Saturday's contest, Frederick wasted no time getting on the board. Cameron Butler led off the game with a solo blast to the left field bullpen for a 1-0 lead.

West Virginia rallied in the bottom of the inning to tie. Patrick Lee reached base with a single and then advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw by Keys' catcher Hernan Yanez. Tyler Dellerman drove in Lee on an infield single to even the score at one run heading into the second inning.

A four-inning scoring drought ensued before Dellerman broke through for West Virginia in the sixth. Dellerman smashed a two-run homer to take a 3-1 lead.

Though the Bears had the opportunity to tack on more runs in the seventh with back-to-back hits from Andres Ugarte and Tyner Hughes, West Virginia failed to capitalize and stretch the lead.

Starting pitcher Mark Faello was outstanding in his start. He held Frederick to three hits through his seven innings pitched with five strikeouts.

Faello was replaced by Brooks Garrett in the eighth inning. Frederick immediately took advantage of the pitching change with an RBI single from Hyland Hall. Frederick added more runs with a three-run home run by Roberto Pena for a 5-3 lead.

Garrett's outing was short-lived, and he was replaced by Carson Lambert.

Lambert cleaned up the mess, keeping Frederick from extending its lead through 1.2 shutout innings.

Though the Black Bears had multiple opportunities to take the lead in the remaining two innings, they failed to strike and ended the game with a two-run loss.

In spite of the loss, Tyler Dellerman continued to shine for the Bears. Dellerman went two-for-four with one run courtesy of his homer in the sixth, and three RBI. Dellerman is now on a 10-game hitting streak heading into August with a .326 BA and 1.094 OPS.

West Virginia is back on the road beginning Tuesday, August 1, to take on the Williamsport Crosscutters for a three-game series before moving on to Trenton to play the Thunder on August 4. The Bears return home for another six-game home stand on August 8. For more information, please visit www.WestVirginiaBlackBears.com.
