West Virginia Defeats Williamsport, 4-3 in 10 Innings

GRANVILLE, W.Va. - Black Bears' C Chris Harvey hit a two out, RBI walk-off single to centerfield in the tenth inning to guide West Virginia past Williamsport, 4-3 on Thursday night from Monongalia County Ballpark. Reliever RHP Matt Frawley recorded the win striking out three batters while surrendering two earned runs on two hits.

After both teams were held scoreless for the first two innings, West Virginia took a 1-0 lead in the third as RF Kevin Krause walked with one out and eventually came around to score on an RBI single from DH Will Craig. The base hit extended the 2016 first round draft pick's on-base streak to 26 games.

The Crosscutters would answer just one frame later on CF David Martinelli's RBI single, which tied the score, 1-1. West Virginia broke the tie in the fifth inning as three Williamsport errors proved costly, allowing 3B Nick King and Krause to score, putting the Black Bears ahead, 3-1. Manager Wyatt Toregas would go to the bullpen as reliever RHP Dylan Prohoroff entered in the seventh and shut down Williamsport over the next two frames.

But, the Crosscutters found success in the ninth as a two RBI double off the left field wall from 2B Luis Espiritu Jr. evened the score, 3-3. One inning later, the Black Bears' offense would break through to win the game as 1B Albert Baur and LF Hunter Owen worked two out walks to set the stage for Harvey's RBI walk-off single.

Owen led West Virginia's offense going 2-for-4 as the Black Bears received an excellent start from RHP Stephan Meyer, who received a no-decision, allowing just one earned run through six innings on three hits with three strikeouts. For Williamsport, Martinelli went 2-for-5 with an RBI as reliever RHP Will Hibbs took the loss, allowing an earned run in the tenth.

Tomorrow night, West Virginia (31-34) will open a three-game series on the road against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (32-32) at 7:05 p.m. from Eastwood Field.
