
Vermont Held to Three Hits in 7-0 Loss

BURLINGTON, VT --- Five different Spinners had a multi-hit game and JoshPennington scattered three hits over six innings to lead Lowell to a 7-0 shutout victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in New York-Penn League action Thursday night at historic Centennial Field.
Pennington (4-3) walked two and struckout six over his six innings, allowing just a leadoff single to Nate Mondou in the first inning, a Nick Collins double in the second and a Mondou two-out triple in the third. After the Mondou triple and walk to Steven Pallares, Pennington retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced (Pallares one-out walk in sixth).
Dioscar Romero came on in relief to start the seventh and tossed three hitless innings of relief with two walks and three strikeouts to earn his fifth save of the season as the Lake Monsters were shutout for the fifth time overall this season. The three hits were also a season-low for Vermont in a nine-inning game.
Lowell took 1-0 lead in the first inning on doubles from C.J. Chatham and Tucker Tubbs, then added two runs in the fourth including a Tyler Spoon RBI single to center. Spoon added another RBI single in the fifth after a Bobby Dalbec triple off Vermont starter Heath Bowers (2-7), who allowed four runs on eight hits over five innings.
The Spinners rounded out the scoring with two runs in the seventh on a Dalbec RBI single and Spoon RBI double before a Tyler Hill RBI double in the eighth. Spoon went 3-for-5 with a run scored, a double and three RBI, while Chatham and Tubbs both had a pair of doubles. Dalbec was 2-for-3 with with two runs, a triple and an RBI, while the league's leading hitter Hill was 2-for-5 with a run, double and RBI.
Vermont (24-41) heads to Connecticut for a three-game series against the Tigers starting on Friday night at 7:05 pm. The Lake Monsters return home on Monday for a three-game series against the Tri-City ValleyCats at Centennial Field thru Wednesday.
