June 28, 2016 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
West Virginia Black Bears News Release
The Spikes offense caused some trouble for the Black Bears as they lost their fifth straight game by a final score of 6-1.
The Black Bears got an early lead in the bottom of the second when a wild pitch would bring in a run giving them a 1-0 lead. State College powered through their line up in the next three innings, scoring two runs each inning putting the Spikes on top 6-1.
West Virginia was able to hold off the Spikes' threat through the last three innings to keep the score 6-1.
CF Hunter Owen had three-hit performance for the Black Bears with singles in the first, third and sixth raising his early- season batting average to .474. Black Bears closer, RHP Billy Roth ended the game with four strike-outs and no hits in three innings of work.
The Black Bears will be on the road tomorrow, June 27, for their three game set versus the Batavia Muckdogs. The Bears will be back at Monongalia County Ballpark on Friday, July 1, at 7:05pm for game one versus the Auburn Doubledays and Friday fireworks.
