Arizona Rattlers News Release
Phoenix, AZ - Rattlers lineman Wendall Gaines was named to the US Army All-Ironman Team, the AFL announced today. The Ironman team honors the best two-way players at each position. Gaines (6-5, 290, Oklahoma State), in his fifth season, was honored for the first time in his career.
Gaines is enjoying maybe the best year of his career. He recorded 31 tackles during the regular season, including seven tackles for loss and two quarterback sacks. Gaines also batted two passes away, and blocked three kicks, including the potential game winning field goal by San Jose last Sunday. Gaines also caught eight passes for four touchdowns, part of his seven touchdowns this season. He recovered one fumble for a touchdown, one kickoff recovery for a score, and converted the blocked field goal attempt into a touchdown against the SaberCats.
The Rattlers now prepare to take on the Los Angeles Avengers in the AFL Quarterfinals, Sunday at Noon at the Snake Pit. For tickets call 480-784-4444 or log on to ticketmaster.com. For more information, go to www.AZRattlers.com.
