Philadelphia Soul highlight inaugural season by leading AFL in attendance

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Soul highlighted their 2004 inaugural season by leading the league in attendance. The Soul welcomed 134,928 fans through the turnstiles to their eight homes games this season for an average of 16,866 fans per game.

The Soul recorded a league high six sellouts, five at the Wachovia Center and one at the Wachovia Spectrum.

Following the Soul in attendance was the Columbus Destroyers (16,286), Colorado Crush (15,233), New Orleans VooDoo (15,240), and Chicago Rush (14,137).

The AFL averaged 12,024 fans per game in 2004, up six percent from 11,397 in 2003. This season marked the third consecutive season that average attendance has risen and marked a 31 percent increase since 2001 (9,155).

The Arena Football League set a regular season total attendance record with 1,828,623 fans attending games during the 2004 season. That figure is 25 percent higher than the previous record of 1,458,830 set in 2003.
