Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

YAKIMA, Wash. - Despite numerous scoring opportunities early on in Thursday's series opener against Wenatchee, the Yakima Valley Pippins were unable to convert on more than one, falling to the Applesox by a count of 11-1 at County Stadium.

The Applesox (17-17) gained a 3-0 lead after four innings, scoring once in the 2 nd, 3 rd and 4 th innings. Meanwhile, the Pippins (21-13) had a runner on 3 rd base in both the 2 nd and 3 rd innings, including a situation with runners at 2 nd and 3 rd with nobody out in the 3 rd, but were unable to score against Applesox starter Brandon Bailey.

The 3-0 lead remained for Wenatchee after five innings, but the Applesox pulled away late. In the 6 th, Wenatchee loaded the bases against Yakima Valley starter Austin Woodward and scored on a bases-loaded hit by pitch, a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0.

After adding three more runs, all scoring with two outs in the top of the 8 th, the Pippins broke the Applesox shutout bid in the bottom of the inning with a Reid Martinez sacrifice fly to give some hope to the 973 fans in attendance. However, the Applesox would score twice more in the 9 th to seal off the road victory.

Jake Roberts, Justin Jacobs and Vince Fernandez all had two hits in Thursday's contest, combining for six of the Pippins seven total hits on the night.

The Pippins have lost consecutive games in league play after winning six of their previous seven. They'll look to get back in the win column, as they send Eli Morgan to the mound against Ian Buckles at 7:05 p.m.
