Wenatchee Hosts Fairbanks for 3 Game Series
December 5, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wenatchee Wild News Release
The Wenatchee Wild and the Wild nation (2,038 tonight alone) have come around to another game weekend and this time, the Wild will be sharing the ice with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. This was a very well fought game by the Wild, but in the end, the Ice Dogs went back to the locker room with a 4-3 win. Despite the final outcome, both Troy Conzo and Ryan Chiasson were awarded the 2nd and 3rd Stars of the Game. Wenatchee is still only 5 points out of tying Corpus Christi for 4th place and 6 points out for taking the spot all together. With two remaining games in this series and two more series match ups in December, it is very possible for the Wild to edge out the Ice Rays before the end of 2014.
Hans Gorowsky opened the scoring game for both teams when he sent the biscuit past Michael Bullion at 8:19 in the first period with an assist from Ryner Gorowsky. Jacob Hetz scored the last goal of the first period when he was set up by Robin Karlsson and Chandler Madry and was able to find the back of Wenatchee's net at 14:06.
The third period was dominated with three Wild goals; the first coming from the stick of Chris Jones. Jones was assisted by Troy Conzo and Colin Burston only 50 seconds into the middle period. At 1:11, Conzo was able to shoot the puck past Fairbanks' goaltender, Patrick Munson, for the second Wenatchee point of the night. Jake Ahlgren and Brendan Harris assisted Troy on this successful play. Todd Burgess scored the Ice Dog's third goal of the game at 6:01 with help from Jacob Hetz. Andre Pison scored the last goal of the middle frame, as well as the last Wild goal of the night, at 7:34. David Powlowski and Dakota Raabe were credited with the assists.
Robin Karlsson scored the lone goal of the last period to give Fairbanks the 4-3 final. This point occurred at 4:20 and was assisted by Adam Kleven and Hetz.
Mike Coyne and Ryan Chiasson were the only Wenatchee players to take penalties throughout the night and their infractions were Unsportsmanlike Conduct (Coyne) and Tripping (Chiasson). Wenatchee out shot the Ice Dogs 33-26 and ended the night with a shot record of 9-17-7.
Michael Bullion was in the cage for Wenatchee during this game, and while playing 59:11 minutes, he stopped 22 shots on goal out of the 26 total.
After tonight's events, Coach Littler stated, "We had our chances tonight. We need to make Fairbanks work harder to score."
The Wild will be back tomorrow night, December 5th, for Game Two of this intense match up. The puck drops at 7:05 pm PST, make sure you don't miss out! Wenatchee has one more game this weekend and that will be played on Sunday, December 7th, with a 5:05 pm PST start time!
