'Cats Cruise Past Corpus Christi

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Max Reisinger posted his second three-point game of the season and five other players found the net, as the Wichita Falls Wildcats posted a 7-1 win over the Corpus Christi IceRays at the Kay Yeager Coliseum on Friday night.
Reisinger posted two goals and an assist in the win, while Matt Koch, Colin Staub, Paul Soubry and Jonathan Lazarus each tallied two points on a goal and an assist. Kevin Charyszyn also found the back of the net for the 'Cats, while Wichita Falls received assists from Cam Knight, Nick Farmer, Tommy Apap, Shane Kuzmeski, Evan Okeley and Nikita Litviak in the triumph. David Zevnik made 21 saves on 22 shots faced to earn his seventh win of the season, and sixth in his last seven appearances.
Wichita Falls raced out to an early lead in the first period thanks to a pair of goals within the first five-plus minutes of the game.
Reisinger got the ball rolling at the 2:28 mark of the frame. A shot from the blue line ricocheted through traffic, and landed on the stick of Soubry. His effort was turned aside by Andrew Lindgren in the IceRays net, as Lindgren sent the puck skittering towards Reisinger below the goal line. With the netminder out of position, Reisinger tapped it towards the front of the net, where it banked off a Corpus Christi skater and in for a 1-0 lead on his eighth tally of the season.
Less than three minutes later, Soubry doubled the lead. The Winnipeg-native stepped onto a loose puck after a pair of efforts were blocked, and sent a shot through a screen that evaded Lindgren for his fourth goal of the campaign.
The Wildcats would chase Lindgren minutes later. Apap gained the zone and dished to Staub, who skated down the right-wing wall, turned the corner and sent a centering feed from below the goal line to the top of the crease. His pass never reached Austin Beaulieu near the blue paint, but it caromed off Lindgren's stick and in to make it 3-0 Wildcats, and end Lindgren's evening. The IceRays cut into the deficit a couple of minutes later however, as Tanner Lomsnes scored his 11th goal of the year on the power play to make it 3-1, which is how the period would end.
Wichita Falls expanded its advantage early in the second stanza, cancelling out Lomsnes's power-play goal with a man-advantage marker of its own.
After a strong transition rush allowed the 'Cats to gain the zone, Staub sent an effort from the high-slot that was parried into an inviting area by Luke Pickar, who had relieved Lindgren in the first. Charyszyn was quickest to react, and buried the rebound for his team-leading 13th goal of the year to make it 4-1.
The Wildcats didn't rest on their laurels though, and continued to press the issue in the second, outshooting Corpus Christi 19-2 in the frame and scoring twice late in the period to stretch the score to 6-1.
First, Reisinger picked up his second marker of the night after Pickar could not get enough on his shot to keep it from trickling over the goal line. Then, as time ticked away in the middle frame, Koch sent a soft shot fluttering towards the net that deflected off an IceRays skater and past Pickar just as the horn sounded to end the period.
In the third, Wichita Falls tacked on an additional marker, as Lazarus potted his third marker of the year to make it 7-1 on a tap-in at the left post following a great feed from Koch at the left point, which is how the contest ended.
The Wildcats and IceRays conclude their weekend set when they face off on Saturday at the Kay Yeager Coliseum. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 p.m., and fans are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for donation to Pediatrics at United Regional Health Care System.
