Wells, Cronin Lead Miracle Over Tampa, 5-0

TAMPA, Fla. - Tyler Wells tossed six strong innings and Joe Cronin drove in three, as the Miracle knocked off the Tampa Tarpons, 5-0, on Wednesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Cronin opened the scoring with a two-out, two-run double in the third inning off the right field wall. The Miracle added another in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk to Luis Arraez.

In the seventh, Cronin delivered again with two outs. This time, it was an RBI single up the middle to bring home Caleb Hamilton from third base. Fort Myers tacked on an unearned run in the ninth inning. Cronin's batting average now sits at .360.

Wells (3-1) allowed just two hits in his six innings of work. He walked one and struck out four. He set down Tampa in order three times and faced just two over the minimum.

Andrew Vasquez (two innings) and Hector Lujan (one) locked down the shutout for the Miracle. It was the first time Tampa has been shut out this season.

Tarpons starter Freicer Perez (0-3) suffered the loss. He allowed three runs on two hits in five innings, walking five and striking out five. He also hit a batter and threw two wild pitches.

The three-game series concludes on Thursday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field with the rubber game. Left-hander Charlie Barnes (0-2) will start for Fort Myers against right-hander Michael King (0-2). First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
