
Wellar Sent Down to Rays; Campbell Called Up to Worcester Sharks

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/General Manager Jared Bednar announced today that defenseman Patrick Wellar has been sent down from the Hershey Bears and will join the Stingrays for this weekends' games. In a separate transaction, forward Trent Campbell has been called up to the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League.
Wellar, 25, whose rights were acquired from the Reading Royals last week, has split time this year between the ECHL and AHL. In the ECHL he has played with the Royals, amassing one goal and seven assists in 25 games. In the AHL, with the Bears, he had one goal and two assists in 21 games.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound defenseman split time last season with the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL and the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. His 28 points (8g, 20a) with Columbia, was tops amongst defensemen in 52 games. With Toronto, he played 18 games garnering three points (1g, 2a).
Campbell, 26, was in his second season with the Stingrays after being signed mid-season last year from France. The Beauval, SASK native had 38 points (11g, 27a) and 37 penalty minutes in 37 games with the Stingrays this season.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound foreward is making his second trip to the AHL of the season. He was called up to the Portland Pirates earlier this season, where he played 17 games, amassing 8 points (3g, 5a) along with two penalty minutes.
