Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - RW Tylor Michel notched his first professional hat trick to pace the Bakersfield Condors to an 8-4 trouncing of the Utah Grizzlies before 3,586 fans at Rabobank Arena on Wednesday night. The Condors have an ECHL best 11-2-1 record in their last 14 games.
The Condors (25-28-7, 57pts) took the lead in the opening period by scoring twice on their first three shots of the game. LW Mark Derlago snapped home his 24th of the season at 4:11 to give the Condors a 1-0 advantage. Later in the frame F Andrew Ianiero scored shorthanded on a partial breakaway at 8:43 to make it 2-0. Utah (21-21-15, 57pts) scored their first goal of the game, on that same power play, to cut into the lead and make it 2-1 after one. G Yutaka Fukufuji started the game for Bakersfield, but was pulled due to an injury just over five minutes into the contest.
Bakersfield opened up a comfortable margin in the second period, lighting the lamp five times in the frame. Michel started the scoring just 41 seconds into the period with his fourth of the season. RW Liam Huculak, Michel (with his second of the period), Derlago and C Bruce Graham also tallied for the Condors in the second. Utah scored an early goal and a late goal as well, but Bakersfield held a 7-3 lead after 40 minutes.
RW Tim Verbeek banged home his 25th of the season at 10:29 of the third frame to keep the Grizzlies battling and bring the score to 7-4. However, Michel answered 4:15 later with a power play goal to complete the hat trick and seal the 8-4 win for the Condors. G Dave McKee stopped 23 of 27 shots for the win after taking over for Fukufuji early in the game. F Dave Bonk registered a pair of assists tonight, reaching the 100-point milestone in his Condors career.
