Well Deserved All-Star Break

(Trenton, NJ) - After an hour and 15 minute rain delay at the start of Saturday night's game between the Thunder and the Keys, it was Trenton who came out with all the offensive firepower once again. With a crowd of 5,782 on hand, the Thunder batted around in the fourth inning for the second straight game and later added five runs for good measure in the sixth to go ahead by 10. The Keys (16-21) battled back during their final inning in the seventh, but four runs weren't nearly enough as the Thunder (20-18) prevailed 11-5 to close out the first half of the season on a four-game winning streak.

Once starter Braeden Fausnaught finished his three scoreless innings in his second start of the season, the Thunder finally broke through in the bottom of the inning against Jonathan Pintaro. Back-to-back singles at the bottom of the lineup from Jonny Weaver and Jorge Bojorquez turned it over to EJ Exposito, who worked a walk to load the bases. A Ryan McCarthy single broke the scoreless tie, but Pintaro shut it down with a strikeout and a double play to get out of the inning.

Trenton's lineup lit up the fourth inning for the second straight game with Tate Ballestero and Caleb McNeely starting their two-hit nights with back-to-back one out singles. Weaver and Bojorquez were then plunked to make it 2-0 and Exposito doubled the lead with a two-RBI single. An error brought in the fifth and final run for a 6-0 Thunder lead which held strong until the sixth inning when the Keys got on the board.

In the home sixth, Exposito led off with a single and stole two bases to finish the ballgame with three. Christian Hall drew a walk and John Cristino's first hit was a run-scoring single which pushed the lead to 7-1. Back-to-back doubles from Gus Sosa and Tate Ballestero tacked on three more runs and McNeely's RBI groundout made it another five-spot for a commanding 11-1 lead.

The Keys battled back during their last ups in the seventh, using three walks and two hit batters to push across four harmless runs. Dylan Hoy and Logan Sanders had their only two runs batted in of the game, which ended when DJ Wilkinson came in from the Thunder bullpen to strike out Petey Guo.
