Colorado Rapids News Release
COLORADO VISITS FC DALLAS THIS SATURDAY: Fresh off a 1-0 victory over Real Salt Lake in Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup action, the Colorado Rapids will travel to take on FC Dallas this Saturday, August 11 at 7:00 p.m. MT, with live broadcasts on Altitude, Mile High Sports Radio, and ESPN Deportes Radio. Rapids captain Drew Moor will return to his hometown to face his old team in the crucial Western Conference matchup, with Colorado looking for revenge after Dallas captured a 2-1 win at Dick's Sporting Goods Park last month.
RAPIDS TO HOST CHIVAS USA ON AUGUST 18: With just 11 games remaining in the season, and 10 against Western Conference teams, the Rapids will host Chivas USA on Saturday, August 18 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City. Chivas is currently just one point ahead of the Rapids in the standings, but the Los Angeles-based team has three games in hand, and both teams will need the points as the postseason draws closer. RAPIDS' THIRD ANNUAL CHARITY CLASSIC GOLF TOURNAMENT SET FOR SEPTEMBER 10: The Rapids' third annual Charity Classic, a golf tournament with Rapids players and coaches, will tee off on Monday, September 10 at The Club at Pradera in Parker, with all proceeds going to Kroenke Sports Charities. Spots are going quickly but are still available at $300 for individuals and $1000 for foursomes (which could also be three golfers and a Rapids player). BRIAN MULLAN PLAYS 300TH MATCH AS RAPIDS TOP RSL: The Rapids earned a 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night in the final Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup match of 2012, with Joseph Nane scoring his first professional goal in the victory. Littleton native Brian Mullan played his 300th career MLS regular season match, becoming just the 18th player to reach the milestone. The Regis Jesuit High School graduate was honored before the game, being presented a framed jersey alongside his wife and their two children. Mullan, who came to the Rapids in a 2010 trade, has won five MLS Cups in his 12 seasons in the league.
GOALKEEPER MATT PICKENS SETS ANOTHER CLUB RECORD: Rapids goalkeeper Matt Pickens, who earlier this season set the club mark for career shutouts, passed Marcus Hahnemann for wins in the Colorado record book this weekend. In the 1-0 Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup victory over Real Salt Lake, Pickens earned his 40th career win in a Rapids uniform. The goalkeeper has been stellar all season for the Rapids, and currently leads MLS in saves, with 80.
RAPIDS RESERVES EARN 2-0 WIN TO TAKE FIRST PLACE: The morning after the Rapids 1-0 victory over Real Salt Lake in MLS action, the Rapids Reserves followed suit, topping the RSL Reserves by a 2-0 score on Sunday. Midfielder Jamie Smith scored both goals for Colorado, the first on a perfectly struck free kick from the corner of the 18-yard box, and the second after good passing in the box by Kamani Hill and Tony Cascio. The Rapids Reserves improved to 5-2-1 (W-L-T) on the season, good for first place in the Reserve League's Central Division.
