
Weekly Update: Rapids Resume Regular Season at Vancouver on Saturday

RAPIDS RESUME REGULAR SEASON THIS SATURDAY IN VANCOUVER: The Colorado Rapids return to MLS regular season action this Saturday against Vancouver Whitecaps FC after a three week break in the league schedule. The match will kick off at 5:00 p.m. MT this Saturday, July 16 at BC Place in Vancouver, and will be broadcast live on Altitude, Mile High Sports Radio (93.7 FM, 1510 AM) and ESPN Deportes Radio (87.7 FM). The Rapids currently sit at 6-6-1 (W-L-T) this season, good for 19 points and fifth place in the Western Conference, just three points behind Vancouver for fourth. CASEY, CUMMINGS AND MULLAN CLOSE TO RETURN: Colorado Rapids players Conor Casey, Omar Cummings and Brian Mullan have recently been recovering from minor injuries, and may see playing time on Saturday in Vancouver. Casey strained his right hamstring during the 2-2 draw with Sporting Kansas City on May 19, while just three days earlier Mullan sprained his left knee at D.C. United. Cummings has been out since May 6 with a left ankle sprain, suffered against FC Dallas. Jamie Smith, who has been recovering from a torn ACL since October 2011, is gradually returning to action and scored twice for the Rapids Reserves in a 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City Reserves on Saturday. COLORADO RAPIDS TO HOST BATTLE OF THE BADGES ON AUGUST 18: The Colorado Rapids and the City and County of Denver announced on Monday that the club will host the 1st Annual Battle of the Badges Charity Soccer Match between Denver Police and Denver Fire on Saturday, August 18 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The match will take place immediately after the Colorado Rapids take on Chivas USA at 7 p.m. MT, and a $25 ticket will give fans admission to both matches, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the teams' charities, the Denver Police Orphan's Fund and Friends of the Denver Fire Department. RAPIDS RETURN HOME ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20 AGAINST SAN JOSE: The Colorado Rapids will play their first home game in nearly a month on Wednesday, June 20 when the club hosts the San Jose Earthquakes. RAPIDS RESERVES DEFEAT SPORTING KANSAS CITY 3-1: The Colorado Rapids defeated Sporting Kansas City 3-1 in Reserve League action on Saturday, June 9 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Midfielder Jamie Smith scored the first two to put the Rapids ahead, the first of which was a long-distance blast to the upper corner of the net. Kamani Hill contributed a third to seal the victory. The Rapids Reserves lead the Central/Western Conference with a 4-2-1 record and next face Rocky Mountain rivals Real Salt Lake Reserves on August 5 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park Field 20.
