RAPIDS FACE TAMPA BAY ROWDIES IN U.S. OPEN CUP ON TUESDAY: The Colorado Rapids face the Tampa Bay Rowdies at 7:30 p.m. ET (5:30 p.m. MT) on Tuesday, May 29 at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, Fla., in the third round of the 99th Edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Online viewing information for the match will be announced on Tuesday. The winner of the match will advance to the fourth round which will be held next Tuesday, June 5 with the time and location to be determined. RAPIDS WOMEN OPEN SEASON WITH 3-0 BLANKING OF VICTORIA HIGHLANDERS: The Colorado Rapids Women kicked off their 2012 W-League season on Saturday, May 26 with a 3-0 blanking of Victoria Highlanders at Dick's Sporting Goods Park Field 20. South African midfielder Ode Fulutudilu opened the scoring late in the first half, finishing from close range off an assist by Sahmia Simao. In the second half, Simao provided again, setting up forward Amanda McMullan for a breakaway goal in the 65th minute. Fifteen minutes later, midfielder Erin Gunther iced the match, scoring a penalty kick after Cayla Davis' cross was handled in the box. The Swans finished their 2011-12 Premier League season with an impressive 1-0 victory over 8th place Liverpool to give them a 12-15-11 record, good for 11th in the table. RAPIDS NEXT REGULAR SEASON MATCH ON JUNE 16: With a three week break in regular season action, the Colorado Rapids' next MLS match will be on June 16 when they visit Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place for a 5:00 p.m. MT game. Going into the break, the Rapids are 6-6-1 and most recently took a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Impact on May 26 despite finishing the match a man down. The Whitecaps match will be broadcast live on Altitude, Mile High Sports Radio (93.7 FM, 1510 AM) and ESPN Deportes Radio (87.7 FM). The Rapids then return to Dick's Sporting Goods Park three days later, facing the San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 p.m.; tickets are available by calling 303-825-GOAL or visiting www.ColoradoRapids.com .
RAPIDS DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY TEAMS CLOSE OUT SEASON NEXT WEEKEND: Coming off a bye week, t he Colorado Rapids Under-18 and U-16 teams will close out the 2011-2012 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season this weekend with matches against St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri on Saturday, June 2 and St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro on Tuesday, June 5 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The U-18's are in good position to qualify for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy 2012 Finals Week, a playoff tournament where only the top two teams from each conference participate, held in Houston, Texas from July 16-23. The U-16s are out of playoff contention and will participate in the Showcase held simultaneously in Houston.
