Fort Lauderdale enters Tuesday's U.S. Open Cup fresh off of a 7-2 second-round victory over PDL side Fresno Fuego at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on May 22. Four different Strikers scored in the contest, Aly Hassan contributing most of all with a hat trick while Polo Morales recorded a brace.

The Strikers are 0-2-2 away from Lockhart Stadium this season and are currently fifth in the NASL with 10 points from nine games. In their last NASL outing, Fort Lauderdale jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute thanks to a goal from Mark Anderson before relinquishing the lead in the 69th minute for a 1-1 draw against the Atlanta Silverbacks.

The Earthquakes and Strikers each have roots to the initial NASL. The clubs faced each other 12 times from 1977 to 1983, the last of which was a 5-3 San Jose win on Aug. 17, 1983 at Spartan Stadium.
