Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
LAST WEEK'S RECAP
Overall Picture: The Greenville Road Warriors (39-29-4), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, completed their fifth season in the Upstate last weekend with a pair of victories at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. The Road Warriors also capped the 2014-15 campaign with four consecutive wins overall and outscored opponents 19-10 in those games. Greenville missed the final playoff spot in the East Division by two points.
On Friday, Bretton Cameron scored twice and Emerson Clark notched a career-best three points (3a) to help Greenville capture its 200th franchise victory in a 5-2 win against the Evansville IceMen. Dean Stork also notched his 200th victory as a professional head coach, while Michael St. Croix netted the game-winning goal on his 22nd birthday. The Road Warriors won three of their five meetings against Evansville this season.
Just 24 hours later, Greenville concluded the season with a 5-1 rout of the Gwinnett Gladiators on Fan Appreciation Night. Forwards Anthony Luciani (1g, 2a) and Vinny Saponari (3a) led the way with three points each, while Joey Holka scored his first ECHL goal in the final second of regulation. Between the pipes, Jason Missiaen made 21 saves for his fourth straight win and sparked the intensity in the third period by dropping the gloves with former Road Warriors' forwards Jason Wilson and Sean Berkstresser.
With the victory, the Road Warriors finished the season with the same amount of wins (39) as the 2013-14 campaign and wound up 22-14-0 on SANDLAPPER Securities Rink.
SEASON IN REVIEW
News and Notes: The Road Warriors completed the regular season with four straight wins for the first time since 2010-11... Greenville outshot its opponents in each of the last 12 games, dating back to March 13th (434-314)... The Road Warriors finished the season 24-0-0 when leading after two periods and led the league with seven victories when trailing after the second frame... Michael St. Croix (2g, 2a) and Dallas Jackson (2g, 3a) each concluded the season on a four-game point streak.
Stars of Tomorrow: As the ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, the Road Warriors certainly did their job this season when it came to developing players for the next level. Greenville saw its highest call-up rate in franchise history during the regular season as 15 different players were promoted a total of 19 times. Those promotions resulted in 314 combined appearances in the American Hockey League and two games played in the National Hockey League. The most notable was goaltender Mackenzie Skapski, who began the season with Greenville and became the sixth former Road Warrior to play in the NHL when he debuted for the Rangers on February 20th. Skapski went on to post a 2-0-0 record, 0.50 goals against average and .978 save percentage with New York this season.
