Weekend Road Trip to New Brunswick
September 28, 2023 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Halifax Mooseheads News Release
Your Halifax Mooseheads are set to head out for a two-game, weekend road trip in New Brunswick in search of their first win of the season. Halifax, 0-2 through a pair of games versus Charlottetown, will face-off in Moncton on Saturday night at 7pm before travelling to Acadie-Bathurst where they will meet the Titan on Sunday afternoon at 3pm.
The Herd dropped a 3-1 decision to the Islanders in last Friday's home opener before falling 6-1 in P.E.I. in a rematch on Saturday. Logan Crosby has led the offense with one goal and one assist while rookie Liam Kilfoil has the only other Mooseheads tally. Fortunately for the Moose, there are some reinforcements on their way back to the team with defencemen Jake Furlong and Dylan MacKinnon returning from training camps with San Jose and Nashville. Goalie Mathis Rousseau is also being returned this week from his invitation to Arizona Coyotes camp.
The team is now waiting on forwards Jordan Dumais and Mathieu Cataford to make their way back. Dumais remains at camp with the Blue Jackets and scored the overtime-winner in a preseason contest against Pittsburgh earlier this week. Cataford has missed all of the on-ice action at camp with the Golden Knights due to an upper body injury suffered during the Mooseheads' preseason. He has recently been cleared to play and remains in camp with Vegas.
Halifax will be missing a key forward for the road trip with Markus Vidicek set to serve a two-game suspension for high-sticking following an incident late in the loss to Charlottetown last Saturday.
The Wildcats opened the season with a pair of dominant road victories over Cape Breton by outscoring the Eagles 13-1. Moncton goalie Jacob Steinman was named to the QMJHL Team of the Week with two wins including a shutout, a goals against average of 0.50 and a save percentage of .976. Meantime the Titan split a pair of games versus Saint John with a 6-4 loss in Friday's opener followed by a 4-3 win on Saturday. Former Moosehead Bobby Orr leads Bathurst in scoring with four points.
You can watch the Mooseheads on their weekend road trip on CHL TV or listen live on CityNews Halifax. The Herd will also visit Cape Breton next Wednesday night before returning home for a pair of games at Scotiabank Centre on Friday, October 6th versus Victoriaville and Saturday, October 7th versus Blainville-Boisbriand. The first 3,000 fans at the Saturday game will receive free fridge magnet schedules. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca.
