Week 10 Preview

Tucson Sugar Skulls News Release

TUCSON, AZ - The Tucson Sugar Skulls hit the road to face their newest in-state rivals, the Northern Arizona Wranglers, for the first time this season on Saturday, June 26 at 5:10 p.m. MST.

Passing Power

Quarterback Demry Croft led the team in both passing (146 yds) and rushing (50 yds) last week against the Massachusetts Pirates. In that game, Croft found the end zone four times: twice through the air and added another two on the ground. The Sugar Skulls QB1 is currently third in the IFL in rushing yards per game and sixth in passing yards per game. This makes Croft one of only two QBs in the IFL to rank top-6 in both categories.

Sugar Skulls running back Mike Jones continued his steady production with both a rushing (7) and receiving (3) TD last week. Jones is fourth in the IFL in total scoring and sixth in total TDs this season.

Electric Elam

Tucson defensive back Matt Elam owned the defensive backfield last week. Elam's lockdown approach resulted in two pass breakups, one tackle-for-loss and seven total tackles. Elam, as well as defensive back Mike Minter, also had a pair of pass deflections that contributed to several key stops against Massachusetts. Because of the Elam and Minter's secondary play, the Sugar Skulls defense front was able to amass a single-game season high in tackles for loss (4).

The Sugar Skulls now own the fifth-best scoring defense, and the sixth-best total defense, after holding another opponent to under 50 points. The team is now one of only three in the IFL to have not allowed an opponent over 50 points.

Rocking the Wranglers

The Northern Arizona Wranglers (0-5) are still searching for their first win as an IFL franchise. The Wranglers own the league's worst offense (27.4 ppg) and the ninth-best defense (49.8 ppg). Northern Arizona's wide receiver corps is anchored by Keyvan Rudd (5 TDs). Rudd currently leads the IFL in receiving yards per game (67 yds) and is third in total receiving yards (335 yds).

The first installment of this new in-state rivalry will be kick off at 5:10 p.m. Arizona time. The contest will be Tucson's third straight nationally televised game on Stadium and watchstadium.com.
